Well, I wanted to really like this book...but the story was just ok...A few things are wrong with this book. Loved the storyline of Emma and Clint; She's a single mother working several jobs just to keep a home for her twin boys and her mother. When Clint, the interim doctor for the time while his uncle is away on vacation, brings the twin boys home after their fall which left their arms in casts, sparks fly between Clint and Emma. Not always good sparks, but sparks just the same. This was the part that I like...their love blooms right before your eyes.
What I didn't like was all the spelling/missing words of this story. Please, if you're going to publish something, get it professionally edited...and if you did get it professionally edited, and this is what you were left with, get your money back. Pronto. When you're reading something, and the sentence doesn't sound right, then you have to go back and re-read it again to figure out what it said. I hate that. Plus, the author couldn't keep the ex-husbands name right...for the most part, it was Dwayne...but at least three times I saw it spelled at Duane. So, which is it?
Also, there's one part where Clint, Emma, and Wade (Clint's brother) were going over what they could use against Dwayne (or is it Duane?) and Clint asks Wade if he found any outstanding malpractice suits against him. Wade says, "Oh, we found a few, but they conveniently never made it to court." Wade flipped through a note pad in his file. "My guess is his father-in-law's money took care of those, too." I thought it was Dwayne's uncle that had a stipulation in his will that Dwayne wouldn't get any of his money unless he produced an heir...not his father-in-law...! His FIL was Emma's father, and I'm sure whatever money he had wouldn't have gone to Dwayne...or is it Duane?...
Another problem I have is towards the end when they get Dwayne to say on a wire that he wants his ex-wife and one son killed...so he's caught on tape and arrested...yet, instead of sending him to prison for conspiracy to commit murder, they give him a plea bargain...He can stay out of jail as long as he gives up all rights to the two boys...ok, maybe I don't know anything about the justice/legal system, but I'd say conspiracy to commit murder (whether by his own hands, or someone else's) would not only let him give up his rights to anything from those two boys, but she would know for certain that he was going to be behind bars for a good long time! But instead, he just has to pay back child support. For him, that's chump-change...so he gets off Scott-free...I think this is where this story loses credibility.
I read some of the other reviews about not knowing "anything about nursing"...I'm a nurse...and really, I think that's just nit-picking. There wasn't anything that suggested that this author doesn't know what she's talking about in that regard. What the author needs to do is edit. That's my main complaint. Fix that, and the ending, and you'd have a great story.

Close To Home Westen Series Book 1 edition by Suzanne Ferrell Lyndsey Lewellen Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
I loved this book and would get sucked into reading. The characters were deep and relatable. The story was fantastic and interesting. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the numerous proofreading errors. Characters names were spelled multiple ways throughout the book (Dwayne, Dwane, etc), and there were some inconsistencies in the story. Nothing that would change the plot, but small details that would bring me out of the story (ex. Are the Miller sisters the pastor's aunts or his sisters? Because it says both.) This may just be a problem with the version. But other than that I loved this book.
I enjoyed the story, although Emma's "rages" were unbelievable and unnecessary. It was a nice light read. But Lordy all the typos and misused words! Please get yourself an editor or proofreader.
This was a very touching and heart-warming story. I love the fact that we got to watch this slow budding romance grow into this beautiful & wonderful romance story. It doesn't start out that way, though. Far from it, in fact. In the beginning, Emma & Clint are totally livid with one another, so much so, that I really expected it to come to an all out physical battle.
But then again, things aren't always what they appear to be. And in time; these two finally realize that they were so wrong about the other in the beginning. The author took the time to really get into these two characters past lives and what makes them the way they are now. So much character depth, and that's what impressed me the most. Of course all of the twists and turns that were thrown into the mix, was both really exciting and nail biting, also.
I even loved all the quirky secondary characters, too. Gage really intrigued me though. He seems more like a renegade, rather than a former cop. I would love to know what drives him, and the real reason he came home...and decided to stay. I also found Harriet to be someone I'd like to know better, and what drives her to be the person she is today.
I had never read anything by this author before, but after reading this book, which was so good, I've decided I'm going to be following this story for however long it lasts.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone!
Not your typical romance, total unexpected twists. Such heart, turmoil, LOVE, loss, fear, and suspense. Just when you think you know where the story is headed there is something more. Love and justice prevail, of course with the plot twists it wasn't what you may have been thinking as you read it.
Yes, there is the beautiful single mother and of course the handsome doctor but with all the other relevant characters there is always something else to consider. Having to learn to trust, learn patience and a whole lot about strength the main characters grow toward a relationship together.....or will they.........
I guess you'll just have to read it for yourself! A very hard to put down book!
Clint has seen enough horror working in the big city's hospital. When his uncle asks him to cover his vacation in a small town, Clint jumps at the opportunity. When twin boys appear each with a broken arm, Clint is determined to tell their mother that her lack of supervision is unacceptable.
Emma is a single mother whose father recently passed away, whose mother is showing signs of dementia and whose twins are always getting into something. She works two jobs to take care of her mother and children and people in her town always help by watching her mother and sons.
When Clint accuses Emma of neglect the town rallies to defend her. Soon, even Clint sees the error of his ways and finds even himself losing track of the boys.
There are quite a few laugh out loud parts and even a dangerous ex-husband. ~
