I truly enjoyed reading this book. It was well written and the dialogue was great...a pet peeve of mine is the interaction and dialogue between characters being stilted and unrealistic, Mr Tolle has excelled in that all important arena. Character interactions and conversations have got to be realistic, not simply to advance a story line. This book was fantasy as it should be, real enough to believe in, fun enough to make me laugh or curse, and have a strong plot to keep me reading until the wee hours...
I very much look forward to book 2 in this series and hope more will be coming soon!
I rarely ever put much faith in negative reviews because personal preference has too much to do with a book review, If you manage to get past the description of a book to find yourself looking at the reviews you need to buy the book regardless of what those reviews have to say. Some fantastic stories are written by novices that have trouble with editing, i rarely let that bother me if the story is a good one. I am very thankful to independent authors for the courage involved in putting their work out there for us to read...some of my favorite books and stories are filled with misspellings and grammatical errors...rough cut gems are still rare and valuable. (This book is technically excellent by the way.)

Suddenly and mysteriously transported to another world with no skills and hunted in a lawless forest Jake Thomas begins a journey in this strange land. The author does a fine job of building up the main character and keeping us interested in his day to day life. The supporting characters of interest but they have limited depth. The story ends in a cliff hanger which I do not like so we must read the next book to get any conclusion.
No spoilers. Plot is steady and slowly builds to its peak.
I found this book a nice easy read. The characters come alive and you root for them throughout the book. It has a nice storyline and the author tries to bring the landscape right into your living room. This is a very easy book to follow and read. That is where my biggest complaint comes in, it's a very vanilla book. What I mean is that this book is more of an adolescence read than an adults. There is really no real violent bloody battles. Oh don't get me wrong there are battles lots but they are very nice...clashing of the swords a little cut here a little cut there and some one is either turned to ashes or is stabbed through. Maybe that seems like a lot of violence to those reading this review and it probably is for a young adult but I was looking for something more. I will read all of the series and that shows that I did enjoy it but I did find it lacking for the more mature reader.
This was a very entertaining read. I enjoyed the book very much.
If you are tempted to read it, do it!
The main character is fleshed out well. I could predict how he would react to some situations and that was good. I also liked when I was surprised a couple of times. The other characters are also well thought out. They all reacted like real people would and none of them were perfect, which made them much easier to like.
The book was well written and paced well. It kept me reading to find out how it would end.
I hope the next book is just as good. This one had a good ending, but all the loose ends were not wrapped up yet, so I'm waiting for the sequel.
Steven A. Tolle combines action and adventure, reality and fantasy, good and evil, and fear and bravery in a story that has you involved and committed from the first pages. It's easy to become attached to the good guys and easy to hate the bad ones. Mr. Tolle has a good grasp of human nature - our strengths and our weaknesses - and he applies that understanding to the development of both the good guys and the bad guys. Mostly, it's a good old fashioned coming of age action and adventure story about the light and darkness that is in each of us. I recommend it for both teens and adults. I'll say it again...good read.
Great book. Fairly common premise but handled pretty realistically. The main character is well done. Supporting characters are also great, particularly Dominic. As another reviewer mentioned, the good guys are good and the bad guys are bad. If you're looking for a Severus Snape, where you don't know which side he's on, you wont' find it here. But for what it is, this is a great read.
The only real complaint is that it takes a while before the real action begins to kick in. There is a lot of adjusting to the new world, building characters, etc. But it's worth it in the end.
I will definitely be following the further adventures of Jake.
*Spoilers, kinda*
This is a great book. It takes all the traditional magic/stumbling into another world Narnia crap and totally reworks it into a funny and interesting read for modern adult readers. I loved it. Give a young man awesome powers and the ability to travel to other worlds and what does he do with it? That's right, he accidentally causes a massive catastrophe and cheats on his girlfriend.
Hilarious and entertaining book. Buy it
I,m not usually a fan of science fiction. I mostly read books on mystery and suspense. I chose this book because I went to the same elementary school, where both the author"s mother and my mother taught. Our mothers are still good friends. When I heard that Steven had written a book, I wanted to buy it and try it out on my new kindle. I have to admit this book was much more than what I expected. It"s not just for science fiction lovers; it's for anyone who likes a well crafted story. It has suspense, budding romance, sword play, etc. I would recommend it to young and young at heart too. I look forward to the next two books coming out in 2013! Congratulations to you, Steven on your fine work of fiction!
