I enjoyed the book although a little juvenile. With fantasy books you want to be transported to another place and time, where you can believe the magic, the mystical is real, that it fits. In this story, you have swords and horses and carriages, kings and queens and castles, but also blood tests and fingerprints and guns and elevators. It just doesn't all fit together. The story has good vs evil, reluctant young princess heroine saves the day, which is great and makes for an enjoyable read. So probably best for ages 8-14.

My daughter loves this book.
I could pick apart flaws and weaknesses, but the simple truth is that I loved it. Will try to post more on Goodreads.
This was a quick read. Characters were not entirely fleshed out, but I thought it was a great way to introduce younger kids to fantasy without dwelling too much on a scary bad guy. The ending was happy which I demand from this type of story. Overall, worth reading.
this story gives so much for girls to be interested in--a slice of life with action, adventure, fantasy, and a girl hero. hard to put down.It has some sadness, but it has some lessons for standing up for what it right and even when a nasty girl is part of the scenerio, our hero is not inclined to be nasty back to her, but to offer forgiveness. She's got gusto but she has to learn that in time. what a wonderful role model!
I love reading stories with princesses and magic, but I have always been a tomboy. I really identified with this princess, because she wasn't like most princesses we read about. She gets into a situation where she has to be a hero and a leader, because there is no one left to do it. If you like princesses, but not the "damsel in distress" type, I'd recommend this one. When I finished this book, I was sad it wasn't a series.
This book presents a wonderful opportunity for moms and daughters to read & share a wonderful story. Sprinkled with fairy dust, the story of Amelia - the 4th princess in the never-never land of Gossling - who learns to be true to herself and walk her own path thru adversity and adventure. Lessons we can't reinforce enough to girls of all ages and as adults we need to be reminded of. "The Extra-Ordinary Princess" draws from magic reminscent of "Alice in Wonderland," "The Wizard of Oz" and "Snow White."

Very current issues of the world we live in are addressed in a fantasy setting - with the importance of resiliance and self-value the underlying message to the reader.

It was a page burner and I believe has a more expansive audience than just the "tweeners" that the book appears to have been directed toward.
This exciting tale of magic, danger, and suspense is filled with positive messages to children who don't try very hard because they don't think they are special enough to make a difference. It teaches, without being preachy, the value of giving your best effort, even when you don't feel like it.

I bought it to read with my ten-year-old granddaughter (who is exactly the age of the youngest heroine) and became so engrossed in the story I finished it after she was asleep. The story is long, and the writing and imagery are top quality. It can be easily read by older elementary agers, but I think would engage middle and high schoolers who enjoy fantasy. Be aware the book addresses serious themes of death and mortal danger that might be troubling for sensitive kids. Be prepared to answer questions and discuss this with your young readers.

"The Extra-Ordinary Princess" is high on my favorites list. Highly recommended!
