DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK. It is not detailed and very short - especially considering the price of $65 -providing an extremely shallow explanation of each concept and law. In addition, the so called links to outside material were often broken links, links to Wikipedia, or to places to buy other materials. Come on! The author called this one in. I don't care what Wikipedia says about a particular law!! I want a link to the primary source or at least a link to the government agency that enforces the law and gives reliable information. As someone working in the Information Security industry I wanted to learn about US Privacy in a succinct way. This book has helped me do that. Its written in a very easy to understand style and has prepared me for the IAPP exam in addition to expanding my knowledge. Highly recommended !
I used several sources to prepare for the CIPP/US exam, and found this to be among the more helpful ones. Many of the sources were good for practicing privacy professional, but the organization of this book made it easier to memorize the material. Well done.
The CIPP/US Prep Guide is an updated road map for passing the IAPP CIPP/US certification exam. As an author of the JAVA Architect Certification guide, I can attest that this guide provides a well constructed presentation of the topics. It includes targeted details and current examples (e.g., FTC consent decrees ) to prepare you for the latest version of the exam. The guide is well organized based on the prescribed IAPP concentration. It includes "special icons" throughout to identify test tips and areas where additional materials are required to master a particular law or issue. This guide and some test software and your own work and efforts should reinforce Prep Guide concepts and provide what one needs to pass the exam.
Excellent prep book and practice exam. The CIPP guide seems to have risen to urban myth status among privacy practitioners. And the reputation seems well-earned. My colleague said he crammed one solid weekend for the CIPP/US and passed. His secret? The CIPP Guide. I don't think anyone has put together the time and actual CIPP-issued practice exams to help people pass this test. I highly recommend the book. The author is also super-responsive if you have questions.

I studied for the CIPP/US exam on my own without a prep course and I passed. There were a few key resources that helped me with the exam. This book, the author's website, and resources from Practical Law. I'd say the website - I can't include a link, but look for CIPPguide - was key because it gives you so many practice exam questions to work through and, depending on which membership you buy, you get this book for free (although the book also has a practice exam at the end). Practice questions are the best way to study. The exams sometimes phrases the questions in a funny way so it's best to practice, practice, practice. This book could probably use some updates especially because the book of knowledge for the exam is changing in August 2017, but for the price and the practice questions, I'd recommend it.
The e-book is very well structured. It might look different from the 5 sections of the CIPP Body of Knowledge but covers all the required content and much more than that. You would find clear segregation between topics that would definitely be tested on the CIPP/US vs topics which might not be tested but the knowledge would help you deal with similar Case Studies on the exam day. This e-book is more on the conceptual side and would act as a reference guide even after you have cleared CIPP/US. I was specifically looking for a kindle version which is better in any way than carrying the physical book along. Oh and please note that this book does not have any sample questions so if you are looking for a book which would give you questions that appear in the exam this is not the one and in fact such a book doesn't exist. You can always buy practice exams from IAPP website. I highly recommend this book for a thorough reading and preparation of your CIPP/US exam.
